Living From A New Awareness
by Laurie Leah Levine, Author of Spiritual Medicine

Did you know that you are constantly changing? Every 90 days or so new cells are being generated in your body. Just think about that, every 90 days new parts of you are emerging. I like to think we are made a new.

I know that sometimes it does not feel this way especially when we feel stuck or unable to move forward with our life or we are experiencing pain.

My question is, how do we continue to grow and avoid getting stuck in a physical, emotional, spiritual or mental rut?

Awareness is the key. The first step is to stay aware and conscious of our thought patterns and behaviors. I remember being a participant in training several years ago and the facilitator was talking about how many people are walking around "on auto pilot". He said it was just  like they were sleep walking. They live there day to day life but with very little enthusiasm and joy. It is as if a part of them has given up and has forgotten all that is possible.

I have seen many people like this and I know there were times in my life that I felt quite lost. The change happened for me when I started to trust myself more and open my eyes to new choices.  I started to realize that I was in control of my happiness and keeping my body, mind and spirit healthy and in balance. I made sure I was around positive and uplifting people. I read books that were inspirational and listened to tapes. The very first "new age" book I read was by Shakti Gawain, called Living in the Light. It really helped me to look at myself and my life in a whole new way. The greater level of awareness we have the greater opportunity we have to change old patterns.

It is important to remember that we are the artists and directors of our life and it is up to us to recognize our own potential and to be our own "cheerleader". It is important to tell ourselves on a regular basis how good we are doing. We do not get enough acknowledgment in our lives. One saying I love is "In order for things to change, I must change".

Instead of saying to yourself, I can't do that, you may want to practice saying, I can and it is easy to do that. Focus on good health instead of being sick or being in pain. Put your attention on what you want instead of what you do not want.

Journaling or writing down your dreams and what you are experiencing and feeling each day is a good tool for expanding ones awareness, getting to see our old thought patterns, beliefs which can lead to a greater understanding of who we are and what is possible. Learning and practicing these exercises on a regular basis has really made a difference in my life. I am no longer the victim in my life.
