Staying Healthy During
Times of Stress
By Laurie
Leah Levine, Author of Spiritual Medicine
With the world and government in such a state of uncertainty, it is the time for
us to stay focused on good health. One of the ways to do this is by becoming
more aware of how we are feeling and by expressing any feelings we may be having
and not pushing them down in our bodies. It is so vitally important to stay
centered and balanced during times of stress and there are many ways to do this.
Some of the following are practical and easy tools from my book,
Spiritual Medicine:
1. Get more oxygen into your body.
Breathe in fully into your stomach and chest. Breathe in peace, relaxation,
love, joy and breath out any negativity, fear, worry, anger, doubt, etc.
This type of breathing helps the body to release tension and also aids in our
ability to relax and focus within.
2. Stay in the present moment as much as
you can.
It
is easy to jump into the fear of the future or bad experiences from the past and
get caught up in it. This type of thinking does not support our health and
wellbeing. It aids in causing us to get sick and out of balance. Be come aware
of each time you are not in the moment and keep bringing yourself back to the
now.
One of the ways to do this is by being grateful for what you do have in your
life and for the people that you love. This is a good step toward maintaining
good health.
3. Taking loving care of your body.
Eat healthy food and drink plenty of purified water. It is easy in times of
stress and worry to start eating unhealthy and falling into addictive patterns
like eating lots of sugar, drinking more alcohol, smoking etc.
This is the most important time to love, nurture and care for your self. One of
the ways to check to see if we love ourselves is to ask the question:
Is
thinking this thought or taking this action loving myself?
If
it is not, start to do something that is and your body will start to feel more
vital.
4. Let go of self judgment and
criticism.
Start treating yourself with kindness like you treat others you care about. Put
your self as a priority. Forgive your self for anything that may have happened
in the past that you are still holding onto. You are an emanation of God and
therefore are special and unique.
5. Create Peace inside of you.
One of the ways we can help to create peace in the world globally is to start
with creating peace within our own lives and within our hearts.
Take the time to make peace with anyone in your life you have been angry at or
hold judgment against. This action of peace can free up so much space inside of
you and help you to feel better about yourself and increase your health and
wellbeing.
